FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES/CALL FOR PROPOSALS

Solving Kids' Cancer (a non-profit charity dedicated to improving survival for childhood cancer by supporting novel clinical studies) is pleased to announce funding opportunities for 2011 and beyond. Proposals are now being accepted for clinical studies specific to the treatment of neuroblastoma, pediatric brain tumors and/or sarcomas.

FORMAT/SUBMISSION TIMELINE: The proposal format for submission is a streamlined proposal form, Clinical Idea of Intent, designed to provide a summary of the hypothesis/clinical study being proposed in order to enable rapid submission and review. Proposals are submitted through the online portal. Proposals can be submitted throughout 2011 open-ended, however it is recommended to apply as early as possible to have the greatest opportunity for support based on the appropriated programming budget.

FUNDING/GUIDELINES: Funding will be in the range of $25,000 to $300,000 dependent on the scope of the proposal. All approved studies will be supported via the Therapeutic Development Initiative (TDI) of Solving Kids' Cancer according to the following prioritized guidelines:

  • The TDI supports clinical testing of promising therapies that may significantly and fundamentally improve treatment for children with pediatric cancer. While SKC values pre-clinical research, only clinical studies are supported via the TDI program. Final pre-clinical work that is requisite to the submission of a protocol may be considered in certain circumstances.
  • The clinical study must focus on neuroblastoma, pediatric CNS tumors and/or sarcomas

REVIEW: SKC employs an expedited granting mechanism to accelerate discoveries and ultimately translate findings to childhood cancer patients more quickly. The TDI reviews proposals on a rolling basis. Initial review will occur within 30-days of submission. Formal communication will be initiated within 4-weeks of submission. If appropriate, the TDI will invite more detailed proposals or seek further discussions to identify potential funding collaboration.
