ASPHO Committee Descriptions

   

Advocacy Committee

Working within the vision of ASPHO's strategic plan and goals, the committee will propose the society's advocacy agenda and strategies for its advancement, and develop the collaborations, infrastructure and capacity to achieve those objectives.

     
    

Practice Committee

The primary role of the Practice Committee is to provide practice resource, benchmark data and education for members. Projects include compensation data, workforce analysis, annual practice-focused workshops, and online resource development.

     

Certification and Continuing Education Committee

The purpose of the Certification and Continuing Education Committee (CCEC) is to provide strategic oversight for the administration of and instructional design of all ASPHO education programs by planning and ensuring compliance with ACCME accreditation requirements; monitoring of member education needs; developing new education initiatives to meet these needs; and monitoring and providing guidance to ASPHO members on maintenance of certification.

Professional Development Committee

The Committee was formed to document and provide support for the various pathways of career development in PHO. Focus is on early, mid and late career as well as addressing unique needs of women and minorities in the field, The committee has developed workshops, networking programs, surveys and other resources to identify and meet member needs.

Clinlical Practice Guidelines Committee

The Guidelines Committee is responsible for all aspects of guideline development, establishing policies and methodology, identifying topics for guideline development, recruiting authors, reviewing guidelines, and planning for publication and diseemination.

Program Committee

The Program Committee develops the annual meeting content and related activities, including selecting symposia programming and faculty, managing conflicts of interest that may arise, reviewing and selecting workshops and abstracts for presentation, and developing joint programming with related organizations.

Communications Committee

The committee provides strategic oversight, policy and editorial direction, and periodic evaluation of ASPHO internal and external communications, including the journal Pediatric Blood and Cancer, other print publications, the newsletter, web site, member community, press releases and other such materials. The committee works to optimize the society's communications, and to promote both the interests of the society and the science and practice of pediatric hematology/oncology through its publications.

Review Course Committee

The committee is responsible for the course content, and facutly recruitment ant developmeny, with attention to the ABP subspecialty topic content, feedback from participants and changing requirements of maintenance of certification. The committee also directs the online review course program.

Development Committee

The goal of the committee is to increase funding from commercial and foundation sources to support and advance ASPHO programs, including the annual meeting, education programming, support for fellows and young investigators, and to further the society’s mission and goals.

Training Committee

The Training Directors Committee provides assistance to Pediatric Hematology Oncology Program Directors in developing competency based curriculum, evaluation templates, and RRC site review materials by sharing examples of such documents. It provides assistance by disseminating information and facilitating sharing of experience and resources among program directors. The committee represents Pediatric Hematology/Oncology on the Council of Pediatric Subspecialties.

Membership Committee

The role of the Membership Committee is to support the society's goals by developing programs and strategies to expand membership, to monitor membership satisfaction, growth and, retention, to recommend new member benefits and to advise the society on its membership developmeont strategies.
